Maureen Niwa-HeinenHI! Welcome to the Camosun College English Department! I have been teaching in the Department of English at Camosun College since 1997. I received my Ph.D. in English at the University of Victoria in 2003, specializing in narratology, feminist psychoanalytic literary theory, and women’s writing. My dissertation, entitled Relational Narrative Desire: Intersubjectivity and Transsubjectivity in Novels of H.D. and Virginia Woolf, presents a narratological model to help interpret modernist, voice-centered novels. I was awarded the Graduate Teacher Award of Excellence, and a Graduate Teaching Fellowship at the University of Victoria. I previously instructed at Red Deer College, Medicine Hat College, and the University of Victoria. I've also had eighteen poems and two stories published in Canadian and British literary and e- journals. My academic interests center on women modernists, 18th century women’s drama, and literary representations of collective identity communities. My scholarly interests include learning and teaching, and innovative classroom strategies. I enjoy collaborating with Camosun College’s Learning and Teaching Centre, and volunteer as an ISW Facilitator.
Recently, I've taken up teaching group fitness, teaching Step aerobics and strength/conditioning at various clubs and recreation centres; I volunteer at the downtown YM(W)CA in Victoria. I'm a member of BCRPA and IDEA Fitness Association. For more information, you can email me or check out my CV (pdf file). |
